1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how ChildPix ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares your personal information when you use the ChildPix mobile application ("App"). ChildPix is a photo organization app that uses on-device face recognition to help parents find photos of their children.

2. Information We Collect

  • Account information (email address for authentication)
  • Child profile names you create within the App
  • Reference photos you select for face matching
  • Payment information (processed through Apple App Store)

2.2. Information Collected Automatically

  • Device information (model, OS version)
  • Usage statistics collected by Apple
  • App performance and error data

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

  • Provide and maintain the App's photo search services
  • Process face recognition to find matching photos
  • Manage your subscription and purchases
  • Improve and optimize the App
  • Send you important notifications about the App

4. On-Device Face Recognition

4.1. Privacy-First Design
ChildPix uses Apple's on-device frameworks (Vision and Core ML) for all face detection and recognition processing. Your photos are analyzed entirely on your device and are never uploaded to our servers for face recognition purposes. ChildPix does not use any third-party or cloud-based artificial intelligence (AI) service for face recognition, and your photos and face data are never sent to any third-party AI service.

4.2. What face data does the app collect?
The App generates mathematical representations (embeddings) of faces detected in your photos. These embeddings are numerical vectors that cannot be reverse-engineered back into images. They are stored locally on your device in an encrypted database.

4.3. How is face data used?
Face embeddings are used solely to match reference photos of your children with other photos in your library. The data is never used for identification, authentication, advertising, or any purpose other than the App's core photo-finding functionality.

4.4. Where is face data stored?
All face embeddings are stored locally on your device. If you enable the optional Cloud Backup feature (Pro), matched photos may be backed up to secure cloud storage (Supabase), but face embeddings themselves are never uploaded.

4.5. How long is face data retained?
Face embeddings are retained on your device until you delete the child profile, remove reference photos, clear scanned data, or uninstall the App. You can delete all face data at any time through the App settings ("Clear All Scanned Data" or "Delete Account"). Because face embeddings live only on your device, they are permanently removed when you delete them or uninstall the App.

4.6. Is face data shared with any third parties?
No. Face detection and recognition run entirely on your device. Face embeddings are never uploaded to our servers, never shared with any third party, and never sent to any third-party AI service. They are not used for advertising, identification of strangers, or any purpose other than helping you find photos of your own children within your own library.

5. Photo Library Access

5.1. The App requires access to your photo library to scan and index photos.

5.2. Photos are processed on-device and are not uploaded to our servers.

5.3. You can revoke photo library access at any time through iOS Settings.

6. Cloud Backup (Optional Pro Feature)

6.1. Pro subscribers may optionally enable Cloud Backup to store matched photos.

6.2. Cloud-backed photos are stored securely using Supabase Storage with encryption.

6.3. Only matched photos are backed up, not your entire photo library.

6.4. You can disable Cloud Backup and delete cloud data at any time.

7. Third-Party Services

ChildPix does not sell your personal data and does not use any third-party artificial intelligence or cloud face-recognition service — all face detection and recognition happen on your device. We rely on the following third-party services only for the limited purposes described below. None of them receive your photos or face embeddings, except that the optional Cloud Backup feature stores the matched photos you choose to back up (see Section 6):

  • Apple App Store (StoreKit) — processes subscription payments. Receives payment and purchase information, handled directly by Apple.
  • RevenueCat — manages subscription status and entitlements. Receives your App Store purchase/receipt data and an anonymous app-user identifier. Does not receive photos or face data.
  • Supabase — provides account authentication and, only if you enable Cloud Backup (Pro), encrypted storage of the matched photos and child profile names you choose to back up. Receives your email address and, when Cloud Backup is enabled, those matched photos. Does not receive face embeddings.
  • Sign in with Apple / Google Sign-In — optional sign-in providers used only to authenticate you. Receive only the information required for sign-in, such as your email address.
  • OneSignal — delivers push notifications. Receives a device push token and basic device information. Does not receive photos or face data.

Each provider processes data under its own privacy policy and is required to protect your information with the same or equal protection described in this Privacy Policy.

8. Data Security

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your personal information, including encryption for data in transit and at rest. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

9. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal information
  • Request deletion of your data and account
  • Export your data
  • Opt-out of push notifications
  • Revoke photo library access

10. Children's Privacy

The App is designed to help parents organize photos of their children. The App itself is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Parents/guardians are responsible for the photos and data they add to the App.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
